Veterinarian

Dr. Andrea Lepoutre

Andrea is from Ecuador and first began her veterinary journey pursuing a career in Equine Health Technology. From there, she completed externships in Ohio, USA and then in Sydney, Australia as a technician which fueled her interest to continue her schooling and become a veterinarian.  She graduated with a veterinary degree from Universidad San Francisco de Quito in 2015 and shortly after returned back to the USA to obtain her Certification in Equine Rehabilitation from the University of Tennessee. She then completed a year long internship at an equine hospital in Texas before returning home to run her own equine ambulatory practice. Looking to follow her passion in reproduction and with a desire to pursue more advanced medicine than what is available in Ecuador, Dr. Andrea went back to Texas for the breeding season at Brazos Stallion Station before ultimately relocating to Canada and joining the team at Westhills in early 2024. She can be found primarily in our reproduction department but also in our main clinic a few days a week. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys traveling (if that wasn’t obvious), any outdoor activities and spending time with her husband and cat.

Veterinarian - intern

Dr. Lara Paim

Lara grew up in Santa Catarina, Brazil on her family’s cattle farm. Her mom and grandma fostered her love for horses and she was riding before she could walk. As a teenager, Lara’s mare passed away and left her to care for an orphan foal, which ultimately made her fall in love with equine care and inspired her to become a veterinarian. Lara attended FURB Veterinary School in Santa Catarina immediately after high school and graduated in 2023. After graduation, Lara started to pursue her masters in Genetic Improvement, but an interest in equine general practice and an available position at our clinic led her to come pursue an internship with us instead. She has a special interest in neonatology and internal medicine.

Lara loves Canada for its snow, the food and the kind people. She is with us for a year long internship and in her spare time, she plans to explore more of Canada’s beautiful landscape.
